About Us
Our Beliefs
The African proverb that states “it takes a village to raise a child,” is based on the principle that it takes an entire village to ensure the safety of children. With this premise in mind, Village in the Valley (affectionately called ViVa) was started by four individuals who saw the need to strengthen the community connections of people within the black population. This would also help to bridge the gap of cultural diversity between blacks and other cultures in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV). The founders of Village in the Valley felt it was necessary to provide a safe place for these individuals to meet, connect, and grow with one another.
